Book 3 final project: Historical Fiction

          The book that I read for this project was Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay; I typically don't read historical fiction because I don't like to dwell on the past. But this book opened me up to realize that the book was about more than just the roundup of the Jewish in paris, but about the journey that Sarah and Julia both go on trying figure out why things were happening in their world. The theme of this book is that things aren't always how they seem. Like when Sarah thought that she was coming back to her brother when the police came to their apartment and when Julia found out that Mamé got the apartment from a Jewish family after they got rounded up by the police. The author wanted people to focus more on what Sarah and Julia's decisions caused in their lives.

         The author wanted us to see more than the area around Sarah and what was happening to her family and others like her. But most people focus on the surrounds of the characters they don't get the whole picture that was intended. When people read this book, they use the tools that english classes showed them.The problem with that is most of the time you miss the most important point of the entire book because you were taught to focus on what isn't really important in the story in some parts. Here is the book trailer for Sarah's Key.

           The author is giving a much bigger picture to the book than most writers would when they write historical fiction. This is a video of the author explaining why she wrote the book.

The genre that i am reading is historical fiction. it's not a very intriguing genre to write about, but everyone's view on books is different. the main authors of this genre are:  Sharon Kay Penman, Philippa Gregory, Elizabeth Chadwick, Diana Gabaldon, Bernard Cornwell( for some strange reason his name makes me laugh), Ken Follett, Anya Seton, C.W. Gortner, Alison Weir, and Margaret George. They all have one thing in common, some of the weirdest last names. To find the list of authors and what they write about, tada! It's right there!

One very similar characteristic that they have in common is(wait for it)..........they're boring(totally kidding, maybe).

 

 

This baby wishes he didn't read the first word of the book. i think that authors should write about current historical days and moments (everything but justin beiber,please!)not events from the past that most people don't know about or care. historical rap time!

 

Book 3: Sarah's Key

The book that I chose was Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay. the book is about a girl named Sarah, who locked her brother in a cabinet when her family was being arrested by the French police. And a journalist named Julia, who finds herself writing about Vel’ d’Hiv’s day and going through the hidden secrets. Throughout Julia's journey to uncover the truth about the French, she reevaluates her life and purpose in France. I chose this book because it gives a truth to what a country might hide from citizens and gives the reality of Sarah's life after hiding her younger brother and being taken to the police. I haven't gotten my book. so I don't know what it's like yet.

Myself as a reader

I found that as a reader I like to read more realistic fiction because it's something that so many people can actually relate to like bullying, wanting revenge on someone, finding friends etc. when I start reading a book, try to find more about the character(s). I try to find what they are hiding from someone or themselves. I feel like realistic fiction is what more people are reading now because of how much the author tries to relate to every reader as if they know you. one thing that I've changed over the trimester is my view on a book as I'm reading, I've tried not to stop reading a book at slow and boring parts because I might be missing something really important that the author wants me to learn.

Where the wild things are

I don't  think that Max was made the way he should have been. They made him seem like he's a wimpy and destructive kid that drives everyone crazy. I also think that they made the wild things too scary since it's supposed to be for little kids. I do not think that the film adaptation was successful because the forest seemed too dark. I think that Spike Jonze made the film to be a family movie but turned out to look like a kids horror story.

My favorite book

        My favorite book would probably be Divergent by Veronica Roth because the author would keep you thinking in one way then turn you around to look another way about things.  I'm very excited to see the movie and see how the actors will work well with the book and will the characters be like they are in the book or change. I think that it will make a really good movie because of all the detail in the characters and their settings. I probably would have chosen a different actress than Shailene Woodley because she doesn't really seem to be a good actress when coming to action. I would also have created a better image for the Dauntless headquarters.

 

         I think it would've made a better TV show because it would draw the readers and other people who haven't read the book series in to watch the show a lot longer than people would to the movie. I also think that it's a little too much like The Hunger Games that people will think that a remake of the series and that it won't be as good. It would be better to leave out the part where Albert dies because it's not that important if Peter killed him or not. Which would you choose?

Book 1 final project

Along For The Ride by Sarah Dessen


My fan experience idea is a bicycle necklace because at the beginning of the book Auden never rode a bike and towards the end she buys one herself then asks her friends to teach her how. The bicycle is blue with fat russell tires and has an old-styled look to it because of the small town that she is visiting.

This is what the bike would look like if it was real. But like this on a necklace with black on the tires and blue on the frame of the bike.

I think this idea would work to get more people to read the book because it will grab someone's attention when they see this near the book and make them want to read why there is a bike in the story and what it stands for towards the story. The necklace could go with the book to get people to want to buy the book but have the necklace price could also be in the price of the book to encourage book stores to buy the product and make money for the author as well.
